Business, Background & Objectives
The Practice of Management is a longstanding development programme and forms part of the client’s learning ‘Academy’. Primeast was engaged to develop, update and enhance elements of this programme to make it more relevant for the 21st Century.
In Detail
A 2 year ‘immersive’ programme for hand picked managers with high potential, it begins with a 1 week residential workshop, commencing with inputs and mini workshops on topics such as leadership, Myers Briggs Type and multicultural working.
The workshop concludes with a 36 hour experiential simulator where teams are tasked to produce a 10 minute video on a given business theme. Teams then set themselves up as ‘companies’, assigning roles and responsibilities and dealing with budgets, unions, decision making points and shareholders. The project invites them to be creative in their approach. The resulting videos often include interviews with senior managers and members of the public. At the conclusion of the simulator facilitators conduct in-depth team reviews and participants create action plans for their own development.
Once participants have completed the residential programme they are enrolled in an online learning community which forms the basis of the remaining 2 year development. As part of this community participants will complete assignments, undertake learning modules and create their own learning forums, moderated by tutors. This phase is underpinned by a series of 1hour telephone coaching sessions conducted by facilitators from the residential programme who are accredited by The Association for Coaching.
The Result
So far these residential programmes have been highly successful and launched in South Africa and a range of European capital cities. During 2007, new phases were launched in other cities including Shanghai and Buenos Aires.
