Clive Wilson – Deputy Chairman and Head of Talent Liberation

Clive (left) is a writer, speaker and business coach who specialises in talent leadership. He was managing director at Primeast for seven years before moving to deputy chairman to focus full-time on helping leaders add value through better use of their own talent and the talent of those around them.

Progressive strategies for talent management

Clive was asked by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) to research and design an advanced programme for human resource directors on “Progressive Strategies for Talent Management” which was launched in London in 2009. It is being run twice a year as an open programme and several more times as an in-house programme for specific clients on demand.

Sharing challenges and best practice

The research provided opportunities to talk with CEOs, HR directors and heads of talent at organisations like Google, Asda, Deutsche Bank, BT, the Cabinet Office, Tata and others. Many of these conversations were filmed and are shared at an online “Talent Forum” with a global network of professionals who wish to share challenges and best practice in talent management.

Creating a talent-centred culture

The key message arising from the research is that the most progressive aspect of talent management is the development of a talent-centred culture which embodies the philosophy that has come to be known as “Talent Liberation”. This philosophy can be summed up as follows:

Organisations reach prime performance when they recognise, value, develop and use the unique talents of their people in the delivery of their objectives

From corporate growth to national growth

Under the tree of talking – Talent Liberation in Zambia

Initially Talent Liberation was integrated into leadership development by Primeast, mainly for corporate clients but a demand also arose in the public sector and especially in regional development where it has become clear that the route to economic development largely lies in the talents and passions of people in regions, especially entrepreneurs. Clive and other members of the Primeast team have also taken Talent Liberation and associated thoughts on leadership overseas, especially to Africa where we have spoken at events in Ghana, Nigeria, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
