Talented Teams

Talented Teams

Primeast has been helping organisations get the best from their teams since 1987. We have always focused on the task in hand and worked with team members to overcome difficulties and put their talents to best use.

The talent agenda

When the so-called “war for talent” began in the 1990s we warned that an over-focus on “the talented few” could be dangerous to organisations and to teams. In order to help focus on making the most of everyone’s talents, we coined the following statement:

Organisations reach prime performance when they recognise, value, develop and use the unique talents of their people in the delivery of their objectives

And we called it Talent Liberation.

Developing leaders

We have used the Talent Liberation philosophy in our leadership development programmes, helping each leader to recognise their own talents, work out how these talents add value, create talent development plans and make value-adding commitments to use their talents more effectively. Only when they’ve done this for themselves do we prepare them to add value through the talents of their teamsTalent Liberation - Developing Leaders.

The leader’s job is to establish a talent-centred culture for their team whereby everyone takes ownership of their talents and knows how to make use of the uniqueness of their team mates. Much of this is done day to day at the workplace but the process can be accelerated hugely through bespoke team development programmes.

Designing team development

We have been designing team development programmes for over twenty years and each one is different. However, there is a theme. Teams need to share a common purpose and establish shared processes and behaviours that all members can buy into. They probably need to resolve blockages and commit to actions that will make them more effective.

Talent in teams

Teams can only reach prime performance when each member appreciates how their talents fit with those of their team mates. We use a range of methods to grow team talent awareness:

  • Diagnostics
  • Use of talent-cards to facilitate feedback
  • Experiential learning where team members take notice of the talents used by others
  • Affirmation exercises where team members take turns to pledge their talents to the team and receive positive feedback from their colleagues on how their talents can and will make a difference
